Dubai Aluminium Company Limited ("DUBAL") — one of the world's largest single-site primary aluminium smelters and the industrial flagship of the UAE — has again demonstrated its commitment to making meaningful contributions to the community, this time as a corporate sponsor of the month-long Rashid Summer Camp 2010.

Khalid Buhumaid (Vice President: Corporate Relations & International Affairs and official spokesperson of DUBAL) advises that 2010 is the fourth consecutive year that the company has invested AED 50,000 in the event, thereby sponsoring the participation of 50 young UAE Nationals. Over and above this, DUBAL employees had the unique opportunity of investing in the youngsters who attended the camp, by conducting three different training-oriented workshops as part of the camp's activities. Each workshop will catered for up to 20 students, for which each attendee received a certificate of attendance. The options comprised:

A First Aid familiarization workshop, which taught students basic life support skills; An Environmental workshop, which focused on the importance of protecting and conserving the environment while teaching students how to be environmentally responsible in their day-to-day lives; andA Fire Fighting workshop, which included a live demonstration and practical exercises designed to teach students the essentials of fighting fires.

"DUBAL strives to be a good corporate citizen and a role model for care and responsibility. As a company, we therefore consciously support community-based activities that contribute to the socio-economic growth of Dubai, thus benefiting the cosmopolitan population of the Emirate and boosting the development of our nation," says Buhumaid. "The annual Rashid Summer Camp offers constructive opportunities for UAE National students to channel their energy and enthusiasm during the heat of the summer while learning more about their culture and religion; participating in sporting activities; and acquiring valuable life skills. It is in this third area that the DUBAL-hosted training initiatives added particular value. Not only did the workshops add to the knowledge and expertise of the 59 students and supervisors who attended the workshops, but they also reflected DUBAL's ongoing efforts to engage our employees in our company's outreach activities by investing their time and energy voluntarily in community work. In-kind assistance of this nature truly enhances the impact of other contributions to society."
