Dubai World today announced that it will sponsor the international education tour by the students of Sharjah Men’s College (SMC), Higher Colleges of Technology, to New York and San Diego, USA, and their participation in the 2008 International Collegiate Business Strategy Competition organised by the University of San Diego’s School of Business Administration.

Nine SMC students have been selected for the eight-day trip, which will begin on April 16. Two faculty members will be accompanying them. In addition to taking part in the competition, the students will also visit major educational and cultural landmarks in New York and San Diego.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman, Dubai World, wished the students well in their journey to learn and experience new ideas. “There is nothing more gratifying than supporting the seekers of knowledge and wisdom in their endeavour to learn more. This strengthens the foundations of a society. Dubai World views this as one of its biggest commitments to our society. We have been supporting similar educational trips by students so that our future generation gains the best from the world outside.”

“Field lessons in business administration are of immense value to students who are future business leaders of this country. Dubai World is keen to ensure that the future of the country’s business is in excellent hands,” he added.

Alia Sulaiman, General Manager, World View Communications, the Public Relations arm of Dubai World, said the tour provides the students with a great opportunity to make good gains for their future. “We are pleased to support the educational tour by Sharjah Men’s College students and their participation in the International Collegiate Business Strategy Competition in San Diego. Dubai World is committed to encourage students in their efforts to expand the frontiers of knowledge and experience the sharing of ideas. Taking part in an international contest will help them gain more self confidence. Study tours like this will strengthen their personality and help them build leadership qualities, which is of great importance for their future. I am sure the students will make the best use of this trip,” she said.

The International Collegiate Business Strategy Competition is a major event in which students from universities across the world take part. It is aimed at sharpening their corporate planning skills and intuitive powers. The competition, which began on February 10, enters the final phase from April 16-20. The SMC students have been participating in the competition online from the college’s Internet server. They have to be in San Diego in person during the final round for the final presentations.

During the tour the students will visit the UN headquarters in New York, The New York Financial district, the famous Stock Exchange and the Museum of American Finance. They will also visit two major universities where they will participate in information sessions on advanced studies in business.

Other major landmarks and events they have in their tour programme include the Metropolitan Museum of Arts, the American Museum of Natural History, the NBC studio, the Empire State Building Observatory, Madame Tussauds, New York, Mamma Mia on the Broadway and the Universal Studios in San Diego.

The tour will provide valuable educational and cultural experience to the students and help them learn about American business practices, especially operations management and leadership. It will be an opportunity for them to share ideas with excellent academic experts as well as artistes and professionals in the field of culture and entertainment.
