Aramex Dubai was victorious over rivals Dhahran, winning the Aramex GCC Football Tournament (AFG) 2008 title in a nail-biting 1-0 finish. A total of eight teams competed in the tournament which was being played for the fourth consecutive year.
The tournament’s leading goal scorer title went to Shriram Vernekar, a striker with the Aramex Dubai team. Saeed Amman, from the Aramex Bahrain side was awarded the best player of the tournament.
Eight Gulf teams participated in the tournament representing Aramex’s various stations in Kuwait, Dhahran, Riyadh, Jeddah, Bahrain, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha.
Safwan Tannir, the Aramex Chief Freight Officer and the Tournament Director, said: “Aramex Dubai performed consistently well throughout the entire competition and we congratulate them on a well deserved win. In the spirit of good sportsmanship I’d also like to congratulate the rest of the participating teams who provided impressive skills, tough competition and a spirited fight throughout.”

The GCC Football Tournament is not the only win for the Aramex Dubai team this season. They recently competed at the 2008 Dubai Corporate Games, where again, they demonstrated their sporting excellence taking home the champions cup in the football tournament.
The Dubai Corporate Games brought together more than 40 companies across various industries to compete against each other in individual and team sporting competitions.
