The Rotary Club of Dubai held its annual Charity Gala Dinner, this year themed Children with Hearts in support of the Chain of Hope charity, at Madinat Jumeirah over the weekend.
Held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the black tie charity dinner hosted business and community leaders from Dubai who participated in the auctioning of rare art pieces that helped to raise AED 1.132 million, for children with cardiac diseases.
Platinum Sponsor for the event was Al Habtoor Leighton Group, while Gold Sponsors were Elemis and Christie’s, who also ran the auction, with entertainment being provided by Germain Jackson, Salha and In-Cha.
Special guest for the evening was Sir Magdi Yacoub, whose Chain of Hope charity saves the lives of children across the globe, every day, by performing vital heart and lung transplant operations.
Set up in 1995 to provide children suffering from life-threatening heart disease with the medical and surgical treatment that they do not have access to in their own country, the charity has helped many hospitals around the world develop their skills and services to help children in need. All the surgeons, medical staff and nurses working for the Chain of Hope do it on a voluntary basis, thereby building up a strong ‘chain’ of volunteers across the globe.
Rotary Club of Dubai President, Brigadier Saeed Bin Belelia, said that Dr Yacoub and the Chain of Help charity needs all the support they can get, and the Children with Hearts event offers the ideal opportunity to reach out and help heal the world.
“We honored a man of giving; a man who has dedicated his life to the lives of others with his gift of medical care. This shining light of hope, care and giving deserves the support of Rotary Club of Dubai and our fellowship this year.”
Rotary Club of Dubai has gained an enviable reputation for supporting and promoting humanitarian causes. Formed in 2002, the Club has achieved much in a very short time, and continues to broaden its scope, size and reach with each passing year.
By using highly ethical standards and striving hard to imbibe the ideals of service in all its members, the Rotary Club of Dubai has a clear cut mission to put service above self, and measures its success by the growing number of lives it has made a difference to.
