Dubai Police has achieved remarkable returns on its technology investment as a result of deploying Oracle software solutions, it was announced today at a press conference during GITEX 2007. Oracle built a robust foundation to automate and streamline Dubai Police’s messaging processes with its market-leading Oracle® Database software. The solution now serves more than 5000 internal users.
Oracle deployed an Electronic Messaging System to replace all of Dubai Police’s manually drafted letters and circulars issued between departments and external entities. This resulted in correspondence and documentation being organized and available on demand as searchable content. Integration with e-mail and e-fax has resulted in faster response as actions are taken when required, and smoother updates of responsibilities and permissions.
“As a major government entity, Dubai Police has a growing pool of internal and external IT users – employees and clients respectively. In line with Dubai Government’s e-government initiative, Dubai Police had a strategic need to migrate toward an enterprise-level IT infrastructure to enhance productivity and streamline operations,” said Colonel Ahmed Hamdan Bin Dalmook, manager e-services department, Dubai Police. “We wanted to organise and automate our daily correspondence, and align our business processes between departments.”
“Oracle has developed a superior and secure database offering which is ideal for government organisations and addressed our critical requirements around data privacy and protection, regulatory compliance, and data consolidation. With its robust and highly available Database capabilities, enterprise level products, and local support, Oracle met our stringent security and service level availability expectations. Oracle provided us with turnkey solutions by visualizing the architecture of the system, putting in place the right configuration and infrastructure of the production environment, and providing on-site support.”
Oracle Content Management has now equipped Dubai Police with a unified architecture and a repository for securely managing these internal and external documents and files. With this solution, Dubai Police has reduced administration and costs, and witnessed improved operational efficiency and streamlined communications through the automation of routine tasks.
In addition to Oracle Database, Oracle supported the deployment of a single database across a cluster of servers with Oracle Real Application Clusters to provide unbeatable fault tolerance, performance and scalability with no application changes necessary.
“By consolidating all data and information in one database, Oracle has equipped Dubai Police with information on demand,” said Abdul Rahman Al Thehaiban, vice president, Oracle Middle East and Africa. “We structured a foundation to streamline its management processes, improve resource utilisation, and deliver more business value at lower operational costs than Dubai Police’s existing IT environment. Our solutions have allowed Dubai Police to effectively and efficiently capture, secure, share and distribute digital and paper-based documents. Oracle Content Management provides a superior user experience that spanned the entire spectrum of Dubai Police’s unstructured content, reduced development and administration costs and increased individual and team productivity.”
Oracle implemented a workflow system based on Oracle Workflow that lowered costs while providing greater service efficiency and a higher degree of information security. Oracle’s Internet Developer Suite also delivered to Dubai Police a toolset that enabled them to continually expand and develop the system, making information more accessible for all users.
