Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has issued a decree in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, appointing his son Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum as Crown Prince of Dubai, WAM news agency reported.
"The decree shall go into effect as of today, Friday February 1st, 2008. It shall be published in the official gazette", the report conveyed. It added Sheikh Mohammed also issued a decree, naming Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum as Deputy Rulers of Dubai, as of today.
It should be mentioned that the post of Dubai's crown prince had been left vacant since Sheikh Mohammad, who was himself crown prince, succeeded his late brother Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashed as ruler in January 2006.
