The unnamed streets in Dubai will be soon named after Arab’s major cities, carrying loved names like Cairo, Al Quds, Amman, Damascus and many more, to “highlight the strong relations between the UAE and the brotherly Arab countries,” reports said.

This decision was taken Tuesday by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai.

The local order of Sheikh Hamdan, who is also UAE Minister of Finance and Industry and Chairman of Dubai Municipality, will be applicable to all maps, drawings and related documents issued by the authorities concerned in the emirate, said Khaleej Times.

Qassim Sultan, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, was quoted by the Dubai-based paper as saying that “a total of 21 streets were named after prominent Arab capitals and cities. The streets and the names were picked up on the basis of a study conducted by the Planning and Surveying Department at Dubai Municipality.”

Sultan said the road from Al Ittehad Road to Al Hamriya Port was named Cairo Road, while the road parallel to Dubai Airport in Al Towar would now be known as Al Quds Road. The parallel road of Al Qusais Industrial Area and Abattoir which links Al Ahli Club area to the Emirates Road has been named Amman. The road from Al Nahda Interchange to Emirates Road passing through the Higher Colleges of Technology for Women was named Baghdad, while the road from the main gate of Terminal 2 towards Sharjah passing through the Abattoir was named Damascus, the paper said.

Sultan also noted that the road from Al Qusais Police Housing to the low-cost housing colony running parallel to Al Qusais Abattoir was named Halab, while the road from Rashidiya Interchange to Sharjah passing through Al Qusais Industrial Area and Al Towar 2 and 3 was named Beirut.

The road from Emirates Road passing through Al Qusais Labor Camp and Al Muhaisina 1 and linked to Oud Al Matina was named Tunis, while the road linking Al Muhaisina 1 and Al Mizhar 1 to Al Warqa passing through Mirdif was named Algiers, the daily added.

Tripoli is the new name for the road stretch between Al Warqa, Mirdif and Mushrif Park while the former Al Bustan Road has been renamed as Casablanca. The road stretch between Al Ramoul and Al Garhoud was named Marakish and the road from Emirates Road passing through Rashidiya and Nad Al Hamr linking to Al Garhoud Bridge was named Rabat, while the road parallel to the Creekside Park was named Riyadh.

The road from Al Zaabeel to Karama, Al Mankoul and Al Refaa areas was named Kuwait, while the road stretch from Interchange number 1 to Bu Kidra Interchange was given the name of Doha. Muscat is the new name for the road from Interchange number 2 on Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Qouz Residential Area and the racecourse at Nadi Al Sheba, and Aden will represent the road stretch that separates Ras Al Khour Industrial Area and Bu Kidra.

The road stretch between Ras Al Khour and Emirates Road which is located parallel to the Ras Al Khour Industrial Area with link to Dubai-Al Ain Road is named Manama Road, while the middle road between Ras Al Khour Industrial Area and the new Manama road will be called as Sanaa, said the reporter – Albawaba.com
