Dubai Municipality’s portal www.dm.gov.ae has been declared the winner in the ‘e-Government category’ of the UAE Contest for eContent, the pre-selection contest for the products nominated to represent UAE in the World Summit Award (WSA). The award was presented to Dubai Municipality at a glittering ceremony held yesterday (Wednesday, August 31, 2005) at Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai. The UAE Contest for eContent is organised jointly by Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City and Dubai Knowledge Village.

The criteria for winning the UAE Contest for eContent include factors such as, quality and comprehensiveness of the content, ease of use, value addition to users, attractiveness of design and the strategic importance for the global development of the information society.

“Winning this award is an acknowledgment of Dubai Municipality’s committed efforts to design an extremely user-friendly web portal, using the latest technology,” said AbdulHakim Abdul Kareem Malik, Director of IT Department, Dubai Municipality. “We designed our portal, giving it a new look and feel to further enhance accessibility of the portal. At the moment we offer 186 transactional and 168 informational services through the portal. The new portal is designed in such a way that it would meet the changing needs of the customers and integrate state-of-the-art technology in communication and exchange of information.”

“We are confident that our portal will be widely appreciated at the World Summit Awards as well. Our website complements the eGovernment initiative of Dubai as we offer an array of electronic services that cater to the diverse needs of our customers. The portal incorporates several innovative features and facilitates easy navigation and accessibility,” added Malik.

The World Summit Awards is a global competition backed by the United Nations that seeks to select the world’s most innovative and creative eContent applications.

Dubai Municipality has been constantly improving its portal by updating the website with the latest information, coordinating with external entities to link the portal with websites providing useful information about Dubai, adding meta tag key words for the search engine and facilitating multiple banner display.
