Dubai Judicial Institute (DJI), the leading center for legal studies and judicial training in Dubai, has announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with EMG Associates (UK) Limited, a prominent UK-based legal consultancy, training program and vocational development provider, to act as an accredited test and certification center for the Test of English Skills (TOLES) program in Dubai. The agreement, which is in line with DJI’s vision of enhancing the UAE’s judicial system, aims to provide nominees to posts as judges and public prosecutors with tools and programs that can help them enhance their law-related English skills and open up new career development horizons.
The MoU was signed by DJI Director General Judge Dr. Jamal Alsumaiti and EMG Associates Director Elahe Ghazinoori in the presence of officials and representatives from both parties. Under the terms of the agreement, EMG Associates will provide DJI with the necessary curriculum and references for the emirate-wide implementation of the TOLES program. EMG Associates will forward applications to the program to DJI and notify applicants to complete their registration personally at the Institute’s headquarters. DJI will in turn provide the TOLES program, the first of its kind in Dubai, to various governmental bodies and departments, legal institutions and private sector companies.
Commenting on the agreement, Judge Alsumaiti said: “Our partnership with EMG Associates will pave the way for judges, public prosecutors, lawmen, lawyers, law students and trainees to acquire the legal English skills necessary to advance their careers and open up opportunities in the local and international business markets. It also reinforces our vision of developing an integrated legal and judicial system in the UAE. We will continue to make key investments in education, training and development to enhance skills and information related to the legal profession and maximize awareness on the significance of law in building an integrated society based on knowledge.”
“The TOLES program provides high levels of legal English competency to all those who undergo it, whether they be specialists or law students. This certification is viewed with importance among leading legal institutions throughout the world since it is a standard requirement for many employment and evaluation processes. Through the MoU we shall fully support DJI in maximizing the advantages offered by TOLES certification. Our partnership will promote the best legal practices and produce a new generation of legal experts and highly-qualified specialists ready to occupy top positions in the UAE’s legal and judicial system,” added Ghazinoori.
Offered in Beginner, Higher, and Advanced levels, the TOLES program is certified and recognized by world-class companies and law firms such as The Law Society of England and Wales. It can strengthen the knowledge and skills of participants who are in the early stages of law studies and thus add confidence when dealing with specialized terms adopted by international companies and law firms. Enrollees are not required to undergo all levels; they are instead advised to choose which one matches their current skills. The Beginner level, which teaches a broad set of specialized terms forming the basis for proper linguistic skills development, provides a great opportunity for participants who want to gradually improve their legal English skills
