Dubai Judicial Institute (DJI), a leading center of law studies and judicial training in Dubai, recently received Brigadier (Legal) Ammar Saeed Al-Taee, Director of Military Justice for the first time. The meeting was arranged in line with joint efforts to reinforce judicial and legal excellence in the region and to establish standards of transparency and judicial efficiency, complementing the federal government’s vision of building an integrated knowledge-based society.

Brigadier Al-Taee was given an introductory tour of all the institute’s departments, including the social club. He met with delegates from the military judiciary who are currently training at the institute to follow up on their progress apart from briefly participating in the public prosecutors training course. DJI Director General Judge Dr. Jamal Hussein Alsumaiti discussed the institute’s strategy for 2010, emphasizing the focus on the adoption of the best judicial practices and the constant pursuit of legal excellence. He highlighted achievements and current objectives related to training, vocational habilitation, and scientific research.

“We are pleased to welcome Brigadier Al-Taee in his first visit to our institute, which falls in line with our joint efforts to promote enhanced cooperation among government institutions and reinforce the development of the legal and judicial sectors. This meeting discussed the latest developments and global trends related to the legal system and assessed various initiatives aimed at building a qualified pool of legal experts capable of occupying high positions within the UAE’s judicial system. In the near future we will set clear work agendas to maximize available resources in order to provide members of the military judiciary the high level of training needed to enhance their participation in establishing Dubai as a hub for security and development in the region,” said Dr. Alsumaiti.

Brigadier Al-Taee said: “DJI plays an important role in developing the legal and judicial sectors in compliance with the federal government’s strategic plan. It has a strong desire to launch initiatives and leading projects that contribute to the development of highly qualified experts who are motivated to maintain excellence in the legal field. We have been maintaining a highly cooperative relationship with the institute; we have in fact sent some of our members to train in DJI to concretize our belief in the effectiveness of its applied training programs, the exceptional expertise of its consultants and teaching staff, and the excellent training follow-up it maintains.”

“We will definitely continue coordinating with the institute in order to realize our shared expectations and visions in further developing knowledge within the judicial sector and preparing future generations to promote the role of judiciary and maintain the values of justice, independence, and equality,” he added.

The participating parties extensively discussed developments in the legal system and the military judiciary and explored various approaches to further developing Dubai’s judicial sector. Brigadier Al-Taee and Judge Alsumaiti exchanged commemorative tokens at the end of the visit.

The Military Judiciary is an independent judicial body that consists of courts and military prosecutors responsible for settling military-related cases. The courts involved include the Military Supreme Court, Military Court of Appeal, Military Criminal Court, Military Misdemeanor Court, and Military Field Court.

The Dubai Judicial Institute was established in 1996 to help educate and train aspiring judges, prosecutors and their assistants, legal experts and lawyers. DJI also offers rehabilitation programs for public prosecutors to enhance their efficiency. The Institute also provides training and consultancy services to various agencies and institutions - both private and public – and conducts research and studies in all areas of law and jurisdiction, locally, regionally and globally.
