The screening and physical search of passengers' hand baggage at Dubai International Airport has been intensified since September 11, with a 33 percent increase in the number of security officers and personnel deployed to implement the procedures, reported Khaleej Times.
Brigadier Ismail Al Gargawi, Director of the General Department for Port and Airport Security at Dubai Police, told the paper that security officers are not discriminating against passengers according to their nationality, religion or destination following the instructions of General Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Minister of Defense.
The Sheikh’s orders are understood as coming in response for prejudicial treatment of Arabs and Middle Easterners in US and European airports.
