A green revolution is underway in Dubai that aims to plant a million trees in the emirate and is sure to boost the Garden and Landscaping industry in the UAE according to Epoc Messe Frankfurt GmbH, exhibition organizers.

Garden and Landscaping Middle East to be held from May 17 to 19, 2009, at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center, has received a boost from many international exhibitors vying for space. The exhibition is the largest dedicated trade event for landscaping architecture, garden artwork and outdoor living in the Middle East.

“Dubai Municipality has been a long standing supporter of Garden and Landscaping Middle East in 2009,” said Ms. Elisabeth Brehl, Managing Director of Epoc Messe Frankfurt GmbH. “According to a recent announcement by Dubai Municipality, a million trees will be planted all over the emirates in a bid to protect the environment.”

A study is being conducted to cover all areas of the emirate with green patches and trees. A special focus will be on main streets that would require more greenery, the announcement said.

“This presents a significant opportunity for international and local companies dealing in agricultural supplies, landscaping and gardening equipment, and outdoor furniture to bid and try to get a piece of this massive project,” said Ms. Brehl.

In other announcements, the Dubai Municipality announced that it will complete several landscaping projects of over 283.6 hectares in the city. The projects will beautify the city through cultivation of parks, roads, intersections and woods, as well as rural areas.

The largest project carried out by the department will be at the Arabian Ranches covering an area of 32 hectares. In June the municipality will complete many projects such as the Kuwaiti Street Project, Al Barsha Road Project; Rabat Street, Tripoli Street, Al Garhoud Intersection, Al Mina Street, Za’abeel 2 Street; and the second phase of Bal Al Shams Street.

The Dubai Municipality strategic plan 2007-2011 aims to raise the per capita green area to 23.4 square meters.

On display at the exhibition will be products ranging from garden machinery, tools, furniture, water features, pond accessories and fertilizers, right through to swimming pools, landscaping tools, architectural landscaping and irrigation systems.
