Dubai eGovernment has announced that it is set to highlight its electronic governance accomplishments at the Cairo ICT 2008 forum that will be held from February 24-27 at the Cairo International Conference Center. Dubai eGovernment will be taking part in the event along with Dubai Customs World (DCW), Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), and Dubai Municipality, to jointly demonstrate the significant progress made by the emirate towards creating a knowledge-based digital society.

Dubai eGovernment, which recently participated in the InfoConnect event in Kuwait, will primarily highlight its core eServices such as Ask Dubai, mDubai, ePay and eLearn, at Cairo ICT 2008.

Salem Al Shair, Director, eServices, Dubai eGovernment, said, “Dubai’s eGovernance initiative has served as an exemplary model for governments across the Middle East. The concerted efforts of various government departments in the emirate have ensured that the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum regarding speeding up the digital transformation of government services in Dubai is realised.”

“Cairo ICT 2008 will provide an excellent platform for us to highlight the achievements of our electronic governance efforts, while getting an opportunity to meet with leading ICT players from all over the Middle East and North Africa region,” he added.

Dubai eGovernment recently revealed a digital adoption rate of a phenomenal 91 per cent of the more than 2,300 government services in Dubai.

Dubai Customs World will leverage the popularity of Cairo ICT 2008 to highlight developments in customs systems in Dubai. Ahmad Khalaf Al Marri, Director of Dubai Customs World, said, “Within a short span of time DCW has been able to achieve remarkable progress in the implementation of its objectives. The tremendous increase in the volume of world trade in recent years has resulted in major developments in commerce, bringing about many work-integrated supply chains that have together augmented the significance of customs systems.”

“Our participation in events such as Cairo ICT will help us achieve some of our key objectives, including carrying out high quality economic and customs studies for introducing innovative and transparent processes in the customs systems; and building human resources potential for world customs administrations through customs training and maintaining strategic relations with key stakeholders,” he added.

Dubai Municipality will be participating in Cairo ICT 2008 to showcase four of its key services – Food Control Health Certificates; Clinic Health Certificates; No Objection Certificates for contractors and consultants; and DCL Test Results-Engineering Materials for consultants working on construction projects.

Cairo ICT 2008 will be held under the theme 'The M Power,' relating to Mobility, Media, Money and Management. New sectors are joining Cairo ICT for the first time this year, including a big representation of the banking and financial services sector as well as real estate services and investment. Different government bodies will participate this year in addition to a huge representation of retailers from several Egyptian governorates.
