Presented Middle East Business Achievement Awards during elite gathering of leaders
Dubai eGovernment announced today (Tuesday, November 27, 2007) at a press conference that it has been presented with the ‘Best eGovernment Programme in the Middle East’ award during the inaugural Middle East Business Achievement Awards (MEBA Awards) at the Leaders in Dubai Summit held recently.
The ‘Best eGovernment Programme’ award is presented to a Middle East eGovernment department that has demonstrated excellence in the use of the internet, and communications and information technology to provide a comprehensive range of services to the general population and business community. The award, adjudicated by a jury panel comprised of internationally-recognised personalities, considered factors such as technological innovation, level of citizen participation, integration and efficiency, and user-friendliness of services.
Speaking at the press conference, Salem Al Shair, eServices Director, Dubai eGovernment, said, “This prestigious award is testament to the quality of electronic services that Dubai eGovernment has offered over the years, and recognises the sincere dedication of everyone at Dubai eGovernment. Dubai was among the first regional governments to respond to the need of introducing a robust electronic governance system, which leveraged the power of the internet and information technology to make available a host of electronic services to ease the lives of people in Dubai.”
“It was an honour for us at Dubai eGovernment to receive the award at the Leaders in Dubai Summit which had distinguished knowledge leaders and captains of the industry from all over the world. The Dubai success story and that of Dubai eGovernment automatically gets carried to all corners of the globe when leaders like Kofi Annan, Richard Branson, Mohammed Yunus, Philip Kotler and Robert Kaplan are present at the same summit,’ added Al Shair.
Brett King, Vice President, American Academy of Financial Management, who was part of the elite judging panel at the awards, said, “It wasn’t a difficult task for us to choose Dubai eGovernment as the best eGovernment programme in the region; they were way ahead of the rest in terms of information technology infrastructure, efficiency, number of electronic services offered and user-friendliness of services.”
Dubai eGovernment is a pioneering initiative in the region to provide online services across the spectrum of corporate and community life in the emirate of Dubai. Six years after its launch, Dubai eGovernment has played a pivotal role in accelerating Dubai’s transformation to a digital society, and in positioning Dubai as a pioneer in the knowledge economy.
The Middle East Business Achievement Awards (MEBA) were instituted to recognise and reward outstanding success, innovation and ethics across Middle East businesses. The awards honour Middle East’s industry leaders through the appreciation of innovative business processes, business excellence and overall business success, while publicly acknowledging the vital contribution made by individuals and companies to the vibrancy of business in the region. The MEBA was created by IIR Middle East, in partnership with Dubai Holding, and had Sunday Times, Al Arabiya, Al Haya and arabianbusiness.com as media partners.
