Dubai Customs organizes a training program for WMD control
40 inspectors & a number of officers from Dubai Civil Defense participated in the comprehensive, first-of-its-kind program in the region
Dubai customs organized a training program on the control of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) aiming to educate inspectors and other interested parties as how to identify the materials entering in the composition of WMD, store and deal with them.
The organization of such training program comes within the Dubai Customs vision as to be the leading customs administration in the world supporting legitimate trade and sharing the international community WMD control.
Comprehensively conducted for the first time in the region, the training program witnessed the participation of 40 customs inspectors and a number of officers and other ranks from Dubai Civil Defense.
Mohammed Al Mari, the Executive Director of Customs Cargo Operations at Dubai Customs said: “Dubai Customs has developed a program for controlling export and materials of dual usages. The program works on the control of products or materials contained in the international controlled lists that being exported through Dubai ports”.
“The training program comprises of series of courses having the same objective all of which come within the framework of Dubai Customs preparations for enforcing the Federal Law once ratified that concerning export control and enabling inspectors and other competent staff to implement the program that developed by Dubai Customs for export control”, he added.
From the technical point of view, Mohammed Foolad, WMD Non-Proliferation Expert and Consultant at Dubai Customs pointed out that the course aims to raise the degree of awareness about materials of direct usage and those of dual usage, which are the materials originally being used in civil works but their function may be converted to assist with manufacturing WMD.
The 2-day program that organized at Dubai Customs main building and concluded yesterday, covered all materials entering in the manufacturing of WMD including mineral, chemical, biological and nuclear substances as well as identifying the international materials coding, transport and freight systems and how to be dealt with and other many issues that being covered for the first time in WMD dedicated training.
"Dubai Customs has not neglected its customers and investors, as we have published a booklet entitled 'Partners Guide: Safety Exports', to raise awareness among companies and corporations towards the safe exports regulations. The guide also helps in achieving protection for customers and investors through preventing the export of dual-use items or dealing with suspicious companies, which may lead to international prosecution,” concluded Al Mari.
