Dubai Customs' participation in the “Clean up the UAE’ campaign being organized by the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) is a testament to its civic responsibility. The drive aims to clean up various tracts of beach and other areas in the Emirates and thus create awareness of environmental conservation.
Dr. Aysha AL Busmait, Senior Manager Communication, Dubai Customs said, “Dubai Customs is committed towards enhancing citizen's involvement and promoting civic pride. Events such as the ‘Clean up the UAE campaign’ allow everyone to contribute for the betterment of the local environment and serve to promote unity by enhancing interaction between resident communities”.
“It is important to make people aware that economic prosperity and growth need not come at the cost of environmental degradation. Environmental protection does not always need grand gestures- sometimes it is a simple matter of everyone demonstrating social responsibility towards protection and preservation of our natural surroundings,” she added.
Dubai Customs has a history of participating in ecological and environmental initiatives in keeping with its company ethos. Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) regularly joins the clean up drives, and Dubai Customs recently sponsored in the Arabian Coast 2005 Conference to discuss measures relating to coastal preservation.
EEG’s cleanup campaigns aim to promote community waste reduction and recycling as a means of protecting the environment from the long-term burden of waste, and also as a flagship for improving the community's environmental awareness. These campaigns, started in 1992, are held at least twice a year in the most polluted parts of the country.
Dubai Customs participated in the "Clean up the UAE" campaign in association with Dubai Civil Defence and Dubai Police.
