Dubai Customs honors employees with constructive suggestions
Dubai Customs has honored on Wednesday 27/4/2009 a number of its employees who have made constructive suggestions during the first quarter of the current year as well as other excellent employees for the years 2008-2009. The honoring ceremony took place at Dubai Customs main building in Port Rashid with the participation of Dubai World and the sponsorship of Mr. Abdulrahman AlSaleh, Senior Executive Director of The Corporate Affairs at Dubai Customs and Mrs. Feryal Tawakul, Executive Director of the Human Resources Division. Mr. Abdulkader Obeid has also attended the ceremony. It is worth mentioning that Dubai Customs holds this honoring ceremony periodically once every three months.
This honoring ceremony comes a part of the "Suggestions and Rewards Scheme" program adopted by Dubai Customs since the year 2000 within Dubai Government Excellence Program criteria and is considered one of the key pillars for the Reform and Modernization program by following the latest international management methods. The "Suggestions and Rewards Scheme" program is also considered a major part of Customs strategic plan by enabling the Human Resources Division to be a part of the decision making. It also provides a base for rewarding employees with development initiatives. And no matter how considerable the suggestion's positive impact is, his owner will be recognized and granted both a non monetary and monetary remunerative reward.
The number of the honored employees due to their constructive suggestions reached 31, whereas those honored for their great efforts were 19. Mr. Abdulrahman AlSaleh and Mrs. Feryal Tawakul both granted them honoring certificates with the presence of a wide number of Executive Directors and managers.
During the honoring ceremony, Mr. Abdulrahman AlSaleh stressed that "Dubai Customs has always encouraged and supported the Human Resources at both individual and team level in participating in the continuous performance and services' improvement processes by triggering their initiative spirit and encouraging them to make their own suggestions in order to develop Customs work. Dubai Customs has also supported the Human Resources in building the excellence culture among employees which will enhance their loyalty and satisfaction level and improve Customs performance and services' development and improvement plans".
AlSaleh added that "Dubai Customs considers the employee as a decision maker and not only a decision executor; it also provides appropriate opportunities and a creative working environment based on its continuous communication and transparency in dealing with all customers. Dubai Customs has consequently implemented the Suggestions and Reward Scheme and is working on its continuous development."
From her side, Mrs. Feryal Tawakul expressed her "joy over the huge number of employees' constructive suggestions, stressing that Customs is always seeking to encourage and reward excellent achievements materially and morally at both individual and team level and aligns them with the implementation of the policy and strategy as well as the achievement of Customs objectives and goals. In this context, the Human Resources Division held many cultural workshops, awareness campaigns as well as honoring ceremonies for employees with creative suggestions where Customs has introduced the Suggestions and Rewards Scheme so as to be one of employees' key performance indicators and a part of their annual performance appraisal".
Feryal Tawakul added that "Dubai Customs has made lots of achievements through the Suggestions and Rewards Scheme where more than 118 suggestions were implemented for the past period leading to the development of Dubai Customs work and an increase in its revenue. the suggestions participation rate has increased by 100%, a significant indicator of the program development and actual implementation.
