Dubai Customs confiscates a global attempt to smuggle 16kg of Drugs

A consignment of clothing and shoes coming to Dubai from Asia en route to an African country, raised doubts among Dubai Customs inspectors working in the Cargo Village at Dubai International Airport. Once checked, the inspectors found the shipment containing 16 kg of morphine and heroine.

Ahmed Mahboob, Executive Director of Airport and Land Operations Sector in Dubai Customs stressed that the Department’s control in preserving the security of society and economy extends to even inspecting “transshipment. "Dubai Customs don’t deal simply with goods that their final destination is not Dubai or UAE. This comes in the context of the security concern in the social and economic locally, regionally and internationally, according to its vision to be one of the most prominent customs Administrations in the world," said Mahboob.

In the details of the operation, Customs inspectors in the Cargo Village had suspected in freight shipment containing clothes and 24 pair of shoes coming from an Asian country and heading to Africa. Inspecting the shipment, the Inspectors noticed holes in the shoes containing white powder. The substance was examined with assistance from the Mobile Devices Section of the Compliance Department of Dubai Customs, and found to be morphine and heroin.
