An Indian man was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Saturday for murdering an alleged prostitute with whom he had a relationship, reported the Khaleej Times.
The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance also convicted 25-year-old S. K. T., a carpenter by profession, of having illicit relations with the woman and sentenced him to another one-year term. He was jailed for another month for drinking alcohol, and yet another month for attempting suicide, said the paper.
The court ordered the man to be deported after serving his prison term. The court was told that the carpenter had met the woman, Rajni R. Raj, at a hotel in Dubai.
Citong the court records, the paper detailed the crime:
The convict had an illicit relationship with Ranji and paid her Dh50 (about $15) for the service. He started visiting the hotel frequently and sometimes stayed there for the purpose of meeting her. They soon developed a feeling of love for each other.
Once the man spent the whole night with Rajni, for which he paid Dh1,600 to S. R. J., said to be the woman's pimp.
Ten days before the murder, the man called the pimp and said that he wanted to speak to Rajni. The woman got on the line and he asked her to meet him urgently. S. K. T. decided to spend another night with the woman and booked a room in a hotel. He paid S. R. J. another Dh700.
S. K. T met Rajni as planned and they had drinks and dinner together. Rajni told the man that S. R. J. paid her money but refused to give her her passport. Rajni then suggested that they both should die; her customer should first kill her and then kill himself.
After the dinner, Rajni fell asleep and some time later when she woke up and went to washroom the man followed her and eventually strangled her.
Realising the gravity of the situation, the man tried to commit suicide by first hanging himself with a bed sheet attached to a ceiling fan. When he failed in the attempt, he tried to cut the veins of his left wrist with a sharp blade. He failed again and ended up in hospital.
According to court records, the convicted man had spent the whole night with the woman, drinking alcohol. The court said the man was motivated by his feeling of guilt and religious belief to kill the woman and then to end his own life - Albawaba
