Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance, Tuesday found a 48-year-old national of Mali not guilty of knowingly possessing fake currency with a criminal intent, Khaleej Times reported Wednesday.

The court, however, referred his case to the Misdemeanors Court, which will try him on another charge - overstaying in the country, the daily said, adding that the defendant was among a number of people arrested by Dubai Police seizing a suitcase with fake US $10,000.

A source from the court told the daily that the case lacked evidence against the defendant and that there was no apparent criminal intent on his part to use the fake currency -- Albawaba.com
