Dubai was ranked the world's 28th top cargo airport last year and has sustained the highest level of growth compared to the other 29 airports, reported the Gulf News.

Memphis, Tennessee, topped the bill for moving almost 2.5 million tons of cargo, closely followed by Hong Kong, with 2.26 million tons and Los Angeles with 2 million tons.

Coming in 28th, Dubai moved 581,997 tons followed by Sydney, Australia, with 564,616 tons and Philadelphia was 30th with 562,752 tons, the paper added.

Far ahead of the field, Dubai recorded 18.6 percent growth, followed by Osaka, Japan with 15.8 percent and Paris, France which had 14.5 percent.

Emirates cargo director, Ram C. Menen, told the paper he would like to soon see Dubai in the top-20.

Menen said Dubai's cargo growth is phenomenal and expects cargo volumes to hit the 3.2 million tons in 20 years. "That is massive growth because 15 years ago it was under 100,000 tons," he said.

Dubai's reputation as a trading base has helped its sky cargo business expansion, Menen said.

"With the free skies there is a tremendous amount of capacity coming in here and those are catalysts for growth," he said - Albawaba.com
