Over the weekend, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported the displacement of more than 1,500 people, while Sudanese officials confirmed another RSF drone strike on Zriba al-Sheikh al-Barai, also in North Kordofan.

ALBAWABA- Dozens of civilians were killed and wounded in a drone strike allegedly carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Monday in the Khor Tagat area, east of El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state, according to local authorities.

In a statement, the North Kordofan state government condemned what it described as a “brutal attack” by the RSF on the village of Al-Luweib, where residents had gathered for a mourning ceremony. “The rebel militia continues its violations and killings of innocent, unarmed citizens,” the statement said. “Today it turned its weapons on civilians in Al-Luweib, striking them as they mourned.”

Officials reported dozens of deaths and injuries, including among women, children, and the elderly, though the exact toll was not immediately released.

The statement urged the international community to take action and classify the RSF as a terrorist organization, accusing it of committing atrocities driven by “ethnic and racial motives.”

The Rapid Support Forces have not commented on the latest incident. However, RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (“Hemedti”) admitted in October that some violations had occurred during the conflict, saying internal investigations were underway.

The attack comes amid rising insecurity in North and South Kordofan, where violence between the Sudanese army and the RSF, a former paramilitary force turned rival faction, has displaced thousands.

Over the weekend, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported the displacement of more than 1,500 people, while Sudanese officials confirmed another RSF drone strike on Zriba al-Sheikh al-Barai, also in North Kordofan.

The war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF, which erupted in April 2023 following disputes over the transition to civilian rule, has plunged the country into one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, killing tens of thousands, displacing millions, and leaving over 13 million people on the brink of starvation.
