More than 300 prominent speakers and delegates from 44 countries around the world were brought together in Dubai for a three day neurology conference held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Al Maktoum, the UAE Minister of Finance and Industry, and organised by Emirates Neurology Society (EMINS) in association with Dnata World of Events.
Twenty per cent of patients admitted to hospitals worldwide – including the UAE - suffer from brain and neurology diseases, according to Dr Mohammed Saadah, president of EMINS in the UAE and president of the 2nd International Emirates Neurology Congress and 1st Emirates Epilepsy Chapter Symposium held in Dubai lately.
Dr. Saadah said: “For the first time on an international level, the event combined two major forums in one event featuring some of the most prominent experts in this vital field to interact and discuss the latest research findings, techniques and breakthrough treatments achieved by the most prominent specialised international research centre.”
Working closely with EMINS, Dnata World of Events played a major role in organising and managing this event and identified and invited 45 speakers from around the world. Other responsibilities included the event launch, marketing and PR, speaker and delegate management, venue set-up, social functions and destination management services. In recognition of their exceptional organisation, Dnata WoE were presented an award by Dr. Mohammad Saadah, Head Of The UAE Neuro Society.
Medhat Nassar, Manager Dnata World of Events, said: “Hosting this international conference with some of the most prominent experts in the neurology treatment field is another major boost for Dubai’s position as an important worldwide destination for events of this calibre.
“At Dnata World of Events, we work on a partnership basis with local, regional and international associations to stage international conferences, summits and congresses at world class levels. We have helped a number of local and regional associations that do not have the financial and operational resources to organise international events, starting from the concept stage and in certain cases have even helped seek finance for the meeting. This was our second Neuro ME conference and we are already seeing a growing interest from specialists in this field. We hope to grow the event even further next year closely working with our partners at EMINS.”
Among the major topics discussed were cerebro-vascular disease, multiple sclerosis, movement, muscle and nerve disorders, neuro-radiology, neuropsychiatry, neuro-rehabilitation, headache, pain, CNS infections, pediatric and adult epilepsy and surgery neurology.
The three-day event formed a basis for cooperation between international, regional and local institutions. Among them was an agreement between the UK-based Sheffield Research Centre and EMINS to exchange knowledge and expertise. And in a move that will mark the first step in this co-operation, a medical student from Zayed University will be hosted by the Centre to complete his or her specialisation studies
In addition, Dr Saddah confirmed that an agreement to form a world class neurology research centre in the UAE has also reached an advanced stage of discussion.
