City Cool to supply labour complex with 12,600 tonnes of refrigeration
Dubai, UAE, July 3rd, 2008:- City Cool L.L.C, a leading UAE-based provider of District Cooling services and a subsidiary of Al-Rajhi Investment Group announced today that it has made significant advancement in the District Cooling project for the upcoming Workers’ Village in Abu Dhabi spread over five square kilometers.
Upon completion, the Workers’ Village will receive 15,000 tonnes of cooling through an 8 chiller plant that are being installed for this housing facility shaping up in the heart of Musaffah Industrial area. Construction of the Thermal Storage tank with a capacity of 2500 TR (Tonnes of Refrigeration) is well underway to ensure stable and continuous supply of cooling to the occupants of the Workers’ Village.
According to sources in City Cool, the District Cooling project is scheduled for completion in December 2008 and will be commissioned by the end of February 2009 to be on-line, for producing chilled water to the development complex.
The District Cooling contract to City Cool was awarded by Al-Inshaat International, the contracting company which oversees the construction of the Workers’ Village. According to Mr. Fouad Mishael, Executive, Al Inshaat International. “Excellent progress has been made in the implementation of the District Cooling system by City Cool whom we have partnered with for this landmark project. We are happy to bring in innovative and environmentally-friendly District Cooling technology in place of conventional air conditioning systems to cater to the cooling and energy requirements of the Workers’ Village complex, ensuring the occupants the benefits of a world class cooling service”.
“City Cool is proud to be part of this visionary project which not only echoes commitment to environment responsibility but also emphasizes on community development, by placing firmly on its agenda workers’ comforts and higher quality of living conditions at the top of its agenda. We are confident that our strong know-how and experience in the technical and commercial development of District Cooling systems and the sustained efforts of our team will help us in the successful delivery of the project within the stipulated time and in stringent with high quality standards.” Said Mr. Fouad Younan, CEO, City Cool
“We are also grateful to Al-Inshaat International, Darwish Contracting Company and Al-Arab Contracting for their support and co-operation in taking this project forward,” Mr.Younan added.
City Cool has awarded the construction of the piping network to Darwish Contracting firm, which is expected to be completed in the month of August this year. The MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) plant room work, which is in progress, has been assigned to Al Arab Contracting Company.
The Workers Village which is located 25 kms from Abu Dhabi international Airport will protect the interest and well-being of the hard working class whilst providing accommodation for up to 30,000 blue-collar workers.
A few of the other projects that City Cool is currently engaged in include Al-Salam City in Umm Al Quwain requiring an estimated 445,000 tonnes of cooling, and Sharjah Investment Centre ( SIC) which will be supplied with 117, 000 TR of chilled water.
District Cooling System is built on the concept of centralizing the production of thermal energy in the form of chilled water and then distributing the chilled water to a range of residential, commercial and Government buildings through a network of underground pipes instead of using one local system for each building, thus creating both economic and environmental benefits. This results in reduced ambient noise and better temperature control for residents in their homes, while building owners or landlords can gain from reduced capital, operating and maintenance costs and substantial savings in electricity usage, since DCS uses only about 50 per cent of the energy required for conventional air-cooled chiller systems.
