The thumping sound of drums being played in discord is turned into a surprising music piece in under half an hour at the Giant Playroom Area of Modhesh World. A simple game of ‘follow the leader’ is played between the children and the teacher. As the children watch the instructor’s action and follow him, the instructor leads the children to make music just like an orchestra conductor.
Designed to entertain and teach children from the age of 3 onwards to follow instructions, co-ordination skills, and concentration, it has also absorbed and enthralled parents who are a ready and welcome part of this workshop. “I am feeling really energized already,” said Mohammed, a young Emarati father of two.
“Drums are incredible instruments and easily played by anyone. They have been known to integrate people right from ancient times. The rhythmic number performed by a huge group of strangers is the gift of this incredible instrument,” said Michal Suzlc, the drumming instructor. “Even our heart beat is a rhythm, everyone has rhythm and can easily play this instrument, life is all about rhythm and even a simple task like walking is based on rhythm,” he added.
The 60 drums used at the Giant Playroom have among them Djembe Drums, Conga Drums from Cuba and Timbales. All these drums are handed out to the audience who are a part of this workshop and it truly proves how integrating the instrument is when it brings together people hailing from different continents, cultures and nations to create music in unison and harmony.
Many people are so taken by this instrument that they keep coming here on different visits. The workshop is for half an hour, three times a day, six days a week at the Giant Play Room in the West Zone of Modhesh World. Young and old are invited to follow the leader and create music.
Modhesh World doors open at 10.00am to 10:00pm on weekdays and from 10:00am to 12midnight on weekends, and 3:00pm – 12midnight on Fridays. Tickets to the venue are priced at AED 10 for adults and AED 15 for kids with numerous free games and rides.
