DIP Olympiads 2007 draws to a close

The closing ceremony of ‘DIP Olympiads 2007’, Dubai’s only dedicated sports festival for companies organised by YalaSports under the patronage of Dubai Investments Park was held recently at the Marriott Courtyard grand ballroom. The Olympiad, which kicked off on February 10th, 2007, with indoor soccer and billiards concluded with Go Karting. In all, 1,500 individuals competed in 14 sporting categories.

“It is heartening to note that the DIP Olympiad is continuing to grow in popularity and the significant increase in the participation this year is ample proof of this. We are certain that this event will be one of the major events in Dubai’s sporting calendar in the years to come,” said Omar Al Mesmar, General Manager, DIP.

Waleed Hamed, Founder of YalaSports, said, “We are pleased to have successfully organised another edition of DIP Olympiad and we thank all the sponsors and participants in the event. The sportsmanship demonstrated by the participants is worthy of mention and I congratulate all the winners this year.”


The prize distribution function during the closing ceremony was attended by dignitaries such as Adel Faidi from Nissan, Nasser Mohammad from Dubai Investments Park, Dr. Liezel Wasserman from Marmum along with the large number of participants from the games.

Last year’s winners Arabtec retained the overall championship trophy with a huge lead over other participants. A new entrant, Emirates Flight Catering-Food Point & Linen Craft, made it to the podium as second runner up while last year’s second place winners Faisal Jassim retained its spot.

Shadi Mansoor from Arabtec was adjudged the player of the tournament, while Samir Ghosn from Faisal Jassim was the runner up. In the women’s category Quennie Sanchez from Emirates Flight Catering-Food Point & Linen Craft took the trophy for her efforts in taking her team up in the ranking.
