DHL UAE, a leading air express supplier in the emirate, has launched a proprietary imaging software which eliminates the need to store hard copies of airwaybills, shipping documents and invoices.

The web-enabled DHL Imaging System (DIS) was designed and produced by a dedicated team of three IT specialists, which spent three months on the $50,000 project, according to a press release sent to Albawaba.com.

“This value-added service means we can assist our customers towards paperless office environments and enhance our client-centric focus which is aimed at making us easy to do business with,” said David Wild, general manager, DHL UAE.

“Customers will now receive much faster responses to airwaybill queries because DHL customer service agents can now respond by sending copies electronically. In the same way the system also speeds up response to delivery notice requests and many other customer enquiries,” he said in the statement.

The launch of DIS takes DHL UAE’s investment in IT this year to well over $1 million with more to come, according to the release.

Wild added that a further $250,000 has been allocated in the coming year for additional innovations designed to boost customers’ express productivity and rationalise their expenditure.

Via DIS, DHL staff can scan airwaybills, delivery sheets, shipping documents, invoices and then upload them on to a central server making the information available to more than 3,000 DHL stations world wide.

“The UAE is the first DHL operation in the Middle East to initiate this programme though similar systems are in use in other DHL international centres,” said Wild – Albawaba.com
