DHL donated BD 11800 to RIA, the first non-profit centre in Bahrain following a highly successful internal team building initiative.
The express and logistics provider this week flew in more than 250 people to take part in an annual football championship, hosted by DHL Bahrain. The Championship is an annual initiative that is intended to ‘break down borders” and facilitate DHL’s vision of operating as one country in the Middle East.
Teams from Iraq, Afghanistan, Oman, UAE, Kuwait, Iran, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain competed on March 9th at the Bahrain Rugby club for a prize-giving ceremony for the winning team at the end of the day. DHL Lebanon, won the Championship after beating DHL Kuwait one to nothing in the final match.
Nour Suliman, Country Manager for DHL Bahrain commented, “We are very proud to be able to host the regional tournament again in Bahrain, and we are extremely pleased that once again the event has been a huge success. Congratulations to the winners! I have to say though that I hope the Bahrain team can win next year.”
DHL donated BD100 for every goal scored during the championship. With 118 goals scored in total, Phil Couchman, DHL Middle East Regional Director presented the BD11800 cheque to RIA the first holistic non-profit centre in Bahrain. The proceeds of the donation will be put towards the cost of a new school bus.
"We appreciate initiatives aimed at helping children with special needs especially with this first of its kind school in the kingdom that needs all the support it can get", commented Christine Gordon, the RIA centre's co-ordinator. "We take this opportunity to thank each and every person who took part in the DHL Football Championship for contributing to making these children's lives happier", Gordon added.
The RIA centre is the first multicultural and integrated centre of its kind in the kingdom. It caters for children with special needs as well as normal children to create harmony among its students. A total of 69 children attend the Nursery grades in RIA, which opened its doors to students in 1999. Out of the 69 children, 39 of them are in the special department while the other 30 are normal children. End
