DHL Middle East, the region’s preferred express and logistics provider, has recently become the lead operator in the region for volume in both US inbound and outbound shipments.

The recent volume figures are a significant coup for the logistics leader as the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has recently raised the bar in security standards for all US-bound shipments with a set of new regulations to protect the 50,000 tonnes of cargo transported each day.

Phil Couchman, Regional Director, DHL Middle East, said: “With our enhanced US air cargo service we are proud to take the lead amongst express logistic providers in the region. We are committed to providing a safe, secure service for all our shipments and remain dedicated to meeting and exceeding all international security regulations.”

The new regulations from TSA have called for consolidation of approximately 4,000 known shipper lists into one central database managed by TSA to allow more visibility into the activities of companies shipping on passenger aircraft. Focussing on extending secure areas at airports and extensive background checks of employees, the regulations will ensure security is stepped up across the board.

The 2005 Global Transit Study stated DHL as being the number one express logistics provider in terms of speed and reliability from the US to emerging markets.  With this latest announcement, DHL demonstrates as the only truly global partner, it has the local expertise to provide a consistent, reliable and secure service to connect businesses to home markets and the rest of the world.

The global security policies practiced by DHL reflect the company’s commitment to security. In the Middle East, two of DHL’s hubs in Dubai and Bahrain are TAPA compliant, with other facilities on course to be certified soon. Offering high added-value to DHL Middle East’s transport and logistics processes and services, the certification from TAPA promotes higher security standards in the international shipping and air cargo industry.
