DHL will fly in more than 250 employees to take part in an internal football championship, hosted by DHL Bahrain. The event is an annual initiative that is intended to build inter-country team spirit to facilitate DHL’s vision of operating as one country in the Middle East.
Teams from Iraq, Afghanistan, Oman, UAE, Kuwait, Iran, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain will compete on March 9th at the Bahrain Rugby club, and will conclude in the evening with a prize-giving ceremony for the winning team.
Bachi Spiga, Head of Operations for DHL Middle East highlighted the importance of the event, saying, “Cross border communication and teamwork are essential parts of the job for our employees. Holding team-building events such as this is vital in ensuring that our teams work as a ‘well-oiled machine’ across all borders.”
DHL has also announced that it will donate BD100 for every goal scored during the championship, in order that everybody can feel like they are making a contribution to the local community.  The proceeds of the donation will be presented to RIA, the first non-profit special needs school in Bahrain, and will be put towards the cost of a new school bus.
“One of our main drives, while organising such events, is to support the local community in which we operate through supporting charitable endeavours. This will be a fun and inspiring tournament for a very worthwhile cause,” Spiga added.
