A car bomb and a suicide attacker killed at least 11 people across Baghdad on Tuesday despite a major security operation in the Iraqi capital. Over 100 people have been died in the Baghdad area since Sunday.
In one incident, a car rigged with explosives hit a gas station in the Sadiyah district in southwestern Baghdad. At least six people were killed and 14 wounded, police said.
Later, a suicide attacker drove a bomb-laden car into a vegetable market near a Shiite enclave in southern Baghdad. At least five people died and seven were injured, police said.
Outside Baghdad, a truck carrying gas exploded near a restaurant just north of Baghdad on Tuesday, killing at least five people and wounding over 150, including many women and children poisoned by gas released in the explosion, police said.
The blast took place in Taji, 20 km from the Iraqi capital. The police initially said the truck was carrying liquid natural gas but later said it was chlorine gas. Five people died by the blast and at least 138 hurt, many of them poisoned by the gas being transported on the truck, police said, according to Reuters. People treated at Kazmiyah and other hospitals said they had trouble breathing and were vomiting.
The explosion took place near a restaurant on the main road from Baghdad to the north of Iraq.
