Israeli Prime Minister Israeli Ariel Sharon vowed in an interview published Friday to implement his Gaza Strip pullout plan despite growing opposition to it within his right-wing Likud party.
"I will continue to do what is good for the people of Israel as I have promised: to bring peace and security," the Israeli leader told the Tel Aviv-based Yediot Aharonot newspaper.
"I am determined to implement the disengagement plan and evacuate the Gaza Strip and the settlements of northern Samaria (West Bank) at the end of next year."
