Back from a trip to Washington, Turkey's new economy minister Kenmal Dervis said Monday he was confident that international lenders would support a new program that Turkish officials are formulating to bolster the country's ailing economy, reported the Turkish Daily News in its online edition.
Dervis gave no figures as to how much support Turkey would need and said that Turkey would seek international funding once it releases its new program, which could come as the cabinet convenes later in the day, said the daily.
Dervis will brief the cabinet on his contacts in Washington with the American Administration officials, as well as top executives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank and for a final evaluation of the works of the treasury, central bank and banking regulation and supervision agency (BDDK), said the paper.
Following the cabinet meeting, the government is expected to come together to decide on two top bureaucratic appointments: the treasury undersecretary and the head of the BDDK.
These two key appointments, government sources said, were of vital importance as completion of the new economic program before making the appointments would at least be an apolitical development that in the long run could hurt the application of the program.
