ALBAWABA - A number of Democrat senates called on President Joe Biden to stop providing weapons to Israel until it lifts restrictions on the delivery of American humanitarian assistance to Gaza, according to a New York Times report.

Citing a letter on Monday by Senator Bernie Sanders, the New York Times reported that by continuing to arm Israel, Biden was violating the 1961 Foreign Assistance Act.

According to Sanders's letter, the 1961 Foreign Assistance Act, stipulates that “no assistance” should be provided to any country that restricts, directly or indirectly, the transport or delivery of US humanitarian assistance.

Last month, the Senate approved an emergency national security aid bill last month that would send an additional $14.1 billion in military aid to Israel, including $10 billion for offensive weapons.

The Senates signed a letter to President Biden voicing their concern, the letter reads: "We urge you to make it clear to the Netanyahu government that failure to immediately and dramatically expand humanitarian access and facilitate safe aid deliveries throughout Gaza will lead to serious consequences, as specified under existing US law,".

Biden said last week in his State of Union speech that US forces would build a temporary port on the Gaza shoreline to facilitate large-scale humanitarian supplies delivery.

The decision to provide a water route for aid into Gaza came amid Israeli road blockades and rising concerns of dire starvation among the 2.3 million Palestinians.

Senate Sanders later on told NYT: "I hope the president understands that a growing number of members of Congress, and the American people in general, are sick and tired of seeing the destruction of the people of Gaza and the creation of mass starvation".

Al-Aqsa Flood operation against Israel

Hamas military group announced on Oct. 7 a military operation called "Al-Aqsa Flood" against Israel which is the biggest offensive in decades.

Palestinian fighters “infiltrated” Israel from the Gaza Strip and captured military bases and took hostages as photos and videos went viral online showing Hamas fighters on vehicles inside Israel and others paragliding into occupation territory.

In response, Israeli armed forces announced targeting Hamas positions inside the Gaza Strip. Thousands were killed, and dozens of thousands of others were injured in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

The latest statistics by the Ministry of Health in Gaza revealed that the death toll from Israeli brutal pounding on the Gaza Strip since October 7 has soared to 31,200+ people, with more than 72,900+ injuries.

Since then, approximately 85% of Gazans have been displaced, all of whom are suffering from severe food insecurity, and the healthcare system has collapsed. Hundreds of thousands of people lack shelter, and aid trucks are entering the area at a lower rate than before the conflict began.
