ALBAWABA- Iran has launched a new uranium enrichment facility in direct response to a rare rebuke from the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which declared Tehran in non-compliance with its nuclear safeguards obligations for the first time in two decades.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran jointly condemned the IAEA decision, calling it “political” and “a clear reflection of bias.” They further claimed that the move exposes the agency’s “true nature.”
In a strongly worded statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said it “rejects the fabricated and baseless allegations” regarding violations of the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement, insisting that Iran remains committed to peaceful nuclear development.
It blamed IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi personally for “undermining the agency’s credibility” through what it described as “provocative” remarks and a “biased” report.
Iran also announced that it had informed the IAEA about activating a new uranium enrichment center, which it says is “safe and operational.” It reiterated its right to pursue peaceful nuclear energy.
A spokesperson for Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization warned Western nations that “their approach will not yield results,” signaling a more confrontational stance in the future.
Meanwhile, Israel called for international action in response to Iran’s defiance. The Israeli Foreign Ministry accused Tehran of “repeatedly obstructing IAEA inspections” and urged the global community to act decisively to prevent Iran from advancing a nuclear weapons capability.
