The National Health Insurance Company, Daman today unveiled its Emiratization strategy at a press conference held at its headquarters.
With a goal of raising its national workforce percentage by the end of 2007, Daman announced that it has enlisted the services of several Emiratization Authorities, such as the Emirates Nationals Development Program (ENDP) to help it achieve its target.

In 2006, Daman attracted a large number of UAE nationals to work in its headquarters and various branches around the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. In Al Ain, Emiratization percentages exceeded 30% and in Al Bateen Branch around 17%. In addition to other responsibility levels, Daman recruited over five employees in different managerial positions in its headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

“The health insurance industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the UAE economy due to the mandatory health insurance law that was passed last year and we are aiming to attract more national youth to work in the insurance sector. For this reason we have developed training programs and courses that will help the new recruits enhance their careers in the insurance industry, giving them deeper insights of their jobs,” commented Dr. Michael Bitzer, CEO of Daman.

To help it reach its ambitious target, Daman established cooperation with ENDP, an initiative aimed at bridging the gap between employers and nationals. The program provides nationals with thorough training courses to help them acquire skills that will facilitate their work across the different sectors in the market. It also assists companies in their recruitment process by filtering the most relevant candidates for each respective company and performing the preliminary trainings and preparation.

Daman has employed various outreach programs to encourage national youth toward joining its workforce. In addition to working with ENDP, Daman actively participates in career fairs taking place in local universities and colleges. “At Daman, we recognize that there is great potential talent among the national youth. We actively want to help develop this talent in what is becoming one of the leading industries in the UAE” added Dr. Bitzer.

Subsequent to their recruitment, Daman enrolls its new employees into its own dedicated training programs that focus on introducing them to the insurance industry, and specifically the medical insurance sector. The training programs educate the recruits on the standard medical terminology used in this field, the details of the health insurance law, and the various products and services that Daman offers to its customers, ensuring their capability in serving their clients in the most effective manner.

“One of Daman’s main priorities is attracting UAE nationals and is working to build their experience and skills, as well as motivating them through a friendly work atmosphere, competitive compensation schemes and benefits,” said Ahmed Al Neyadi, Manager of Al Ain branch.

“Daman is pursuing a clear future strategy aiming to create and implement training programs, which will effectively enhance the proficiency of our workforce, and prepares them for the focal role that Daman will play in the regional health insurance industry, especially after it was named the best medical insurer in the Middle East,” added Omar Al Qubaisi, Manager of Al Bateen branch.

With a customer base of over half a Million members, Daman is the largest health insurance company in the GCC region operating 4 branches around the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Daman was recently named the Best Medical Insurer in the Middle East region at Insurex Middle East Awards.
