A militant alliance made up of Islamist fighters and local people captured a Yemeni Daesh leader during an operation to push the group back from the Libyan city of Derna Saturday, Reuters reports.

Two Daesh suicide bombers blew themselves up in Derna early Saturday killing at least three people and wounding several others during clashes with rival militants.

Islamist group Majlis Mujahideen was engaged in fighting for control of the Libyan city, managing to push Daesh out of many parts of Derna, according to local residents.

Daesh loyalists have attempted to take advantage of Libya’s instability to expand their presence in the war-torn country.
