Daesh has claimed responsibility for the attack on Moscow’s traffic police on Wednesday in which both attackers were killed. The statement was released through Amaq news agency.
Two Daesh men armed with guns and axes were killed after attacking a traffic police patrol office on Schyolkovskoe Shosse to the capital’s north-east.
Two officers were wounded with one still remaining in hospital.
Daesh said the attack came as a revenge for Russia’s aerial bombing campaign in Syria.
Russia has been bombing militants in Syria since September last year as part of its campaign to support the Syrian regime.
The attack came as part of the revenge Daesh was calling for through a video that was released and which showed a masked man urging Daesh followers to carry out attacks in Russia.
The video named the attackers as Uthman Mardalov and Salim Israilov.
“Listen Putin, we will come to Russia and kill you at your homes… Oh brothers, carry out jihad and kill and fight them” said the masked man in the clip.
The Kremlin commented saying that such threats would not affect its fight against international terrorism.
