Daesh (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for an attack in southern Yemen on Friday that left 29 dead, AFP reported Monday.
The claim comes shortly after the extremist group also took responsibility for the mosque massacre that killed 142 people.
According to AFP the militants' brief statement on Twitter said they had "liquidated 29 apostates" that were members of the security forces. Local officials said gunmen attacked police officers in the town of Lahj, north of Aden.
The UN Security Council has held meetings to discuss Yemen after Hadi called for "urgent intervention" from the international community. Nations have been concerned about the growing presence of extremists in the country, especially Daesh as the group's influence is spreading throughout the MENA region.
