Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said in Nicosia on Wednesday that the role of United Nations senior envoy on Cyprus at the direct talks has become more intense and more active following a visit to Cyprus by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in mid-May, according to Cyprus News Agency.

Speaking in the aftermath of Wednesday's National Council meeting, the spokesman stated President Glafcos Clerides briefed leaders of the eight parliamentary parties, comprising the National Council, with regards to his talks with the Greek government last week in Athens.

The Council is scheduled to meet again next Thursday to give the opportunity to the parties to comment on what they have heard.(Albawaba.com)
