Creations 2010 concluded its four-day fashion extravaganza with a glamorous runway show featuring the collections of famed Dubai fashion house Amato Couture by Furne One and noted Philippine designer Jules Quirante. Preston University students staged a spectacular show that is certain to open many doors for them in the world of fashion.

Held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, Creations 2010 runway shows over the four-day event have been well received by fashionistas and critics alike, highlighting Dubai’s continuing ascent as a truly global fashion capital.

Jules Quirante’s stunning collection featured ensemble pieces that blended both Eastern sensibilities with Western élan. Though the dominant colour was black, traces of red, gold and light blue provided the perfect accents. The dresses – mostly off-the-shoulder and halter neck gowns - were a stylish collage of Eastern fabric westernized by edgy accessories and cuts, capped by intricately designed headdresses.

Speaking of international renown, one Dubai-based designer that has captured the fancy of international critics and models is Furne One. He was a hit in Miami Fashion Week, where he won the top designer award, and will soon grace the runways of New York, Los Angeles and Berlin as part of his first quarter conquest. Before he travels, he showed Dubai residents and tourists why his Amato house has been a revered name in the local fashion world.

His latest collection stands out with new techniques in embroidery with a vast palette of colours that were simply mesmerizing. Furne’s beadwork and crystal elements are placed elegantly on the fabric and serve to accentuate his dresses with panache.
Fashion design students from Preston University showed a lot of promise with an interesting collection of formal and casual wear, as well as some stylised abayas. The audience were visibly impressed and with that kind of reaction, the students could be knocking on the doors of some fashion labels here and abroad.

International designers/labels that participated this year included Marco Marcu, Rohit Verma, and Nili Zahar. The show also featured established designers/labels from the UAE included Sa Soie by Noha Karam, Amber Feroz, and Rocky Gathercole; it also provided an opportunity for aspiring designers/labels to shine, including Arabella by Irene Traikova, Asma Rafiq, and Haute Pink Couture by Shafaq and Ayesha.

A total of 16 international models – including Miss India 2005 and Bollywood actress Sayali Bhagat, Miss India 2008 Tanvi Vyas, Miss International 2nd runner-up Ana Ostorjic, and Miss Earth England 2008 Holly Ikin, among other noted models –  provided a truly memorable and glamorous fashion extravaganza at the Fashion Atrium of Dubai Mall.
