ALBAWABA - Spanish Supreme Court announces dropping terrorism investigation against politician separatist leader Carles Puigdemont.

Later in February, a Spanish court announced that it would launch an investigation into Catalan separatist leader Carles Puigdemont on "terrorism" accusations stemming from protests related to the failed 2017 Catalan independence campaign.

At the time, the court said it had decided "to investigate and, where appropriate, prosecute" Puigdemont "for terrorism offenses in relation to the Democratic Tsunami case", referring to a secretive Catalan protest group involved in blockading Barcelona airport in late 2019.

In May, the Spanish Parliament announced passing a controversial bill that would pave the way for the return of separatist Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont after years of self-imposed exile.
