A tank reportedly stormed the presidential residence in what appears to be a coup attempt led by the army chief.
Reuters has cited a military general stating, "There will be a new government, and the army still recognizes the president as commander of the army."
Former Bolivian President Evo Morales has issued a warning against the army taking further action to launch a military coup.
Meanwhile, the army has blocked several central streets in La Paz and occupied the square in front of the government building.
