Egypt’s President Hosni Mubarak proclaimed Tuesday that the Coptic Christian Christmas, celebrated on January 7th, will be celebrated as a national holiday, AFP reported.

Mubarak, speaking on a visit to Aswan, said the Coptic Christmas would be "an official holiday for Christians and Muslims."

Until now, Christmas and Easter have been festivals only for Christians, while the Muslim holidays of Eid al-Fitr and al-Adha have been so for everyone. (Albawaba.com)
