One person has been killed in a second shooting incident in Denmark which took place within hours of the first.

Police say the victims was shot in the head several times as a gunman attacked a synagogue in Copenhagen.

Two police officers were also wounded and the perpetrator fled the scene.

Earlier in the day, one person was killed and three officers wounded during a gun attack at a cafe in Copenhagen.

The first gunman opened fire as a debate on the freedom of speech was taking place.

The attacker escaped in a car, since abandoned, and police have launched a manhunt across the city. Officials say they don’t know if the two attacks are linked.

Witnesses claim as many as fifty gunshots were fired during the first assault.

The discussion called “Art, blasphemy and the freedom of expression” was organised by Swedish artist Lars Vilks, who has received numerous death threats after he caricatured the Prophet Mohammed in 2007.

Vilks was under police protection at the time of the attack and is safe and well.

The French ambassador to Denmark, Francois Zimeray was also present at the event.

He said the gunman had the intention to carry out a raid similar to the one at the Charlie Hebdo offices in Paris in January.

He added that the attacker could not get into the building.

Danish police also confirmed that the shooting “seems to be in line with what we saw in Paris.”
