One of British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook's closest advisers has been appointed Britain's next ambassador to Israel, reported the official Kuwaiti news agency (KUNA).
Sherard Cowper-Coles will replace Francis Cornish, who completes a three-year term at the Tel Aviv embassy in September, said the agency.
The 46-year-old new envoy has been cook's principal private secretary for the past three years, during which he has accompanied him to Israel during missions to the Middle East.
During his 24 years as a diplomat, Cowper-Coles has served as political counselor at the British embassy in Paris and head of the foreign office's Hong Kong department, KUNA added – Albawaba.com
