Drydocks World – Dubai a subsidiary of Drydocks World, added another feather in it’s cap on Tuesday, April 15 2008, by delivering the giant Aker H-6e, semi-submersible drilling rig hull. This 120-metre long rig hull is the second such vessel delivered by Drydocks World – Dubai within 8 months after delivering the first one in August 2007. Considering the massive size of and weight (16000 tonnes), this is a stupendous achievement.
Mr. Nawal Saigal, Managing Director said that this achievement “confirms yet again that Drydocks World- Dubai has become a leading player in the global marine industry. It is testimony to Dubai’s position as the most appropriate centre for being assigned giant projects that require advanced equipment and high-end technology, besides the trustworthiness and experience which crown our efforts to achieve excellence.”
“Drydocks World- Dubai is growing steadily and strengthening it’s global footprint in the fields of Ship repair, Conversions and Ship building. Our highly skilled and motivated work force coupled with state of the art facilities, world’s largest drydock and homegrown 2000t floating crane are attracting the discerning global clients to entrust mega projects to our expanding yard”. Repeat orders of our old valued customers is a testimony to our superb quality and excellent customer service.
Hans Petter Jacobsen, Business Manager of Aker Solutions, praised the efforts put in by the management of Drydocks World- Dubai and the facilities they provided for this major project. “They ensured the highest safety and security standards, which is reflected in the fact that no accidents occurred during the construction of the drilling rig hull given that more than 2,500 engineers, technicians and workers were involved in the project over a period of 14 months,” he noted.
The huge bracings fabricated and installed between the twin hulls and columns have a diameter of upto 3.75 m and plate thickness upto 50mm. Total weight of these bracings is about 1000 meters and length about 475m. These bracings have been rolled in house, using the versatile rolling machine recently commissioned in the yard.
This is one of the largest drilling rig hulls to be towed, she will mate with the deck at Stord. The rigs have been specially designed to conquer the challenges of deepwater drilling operations in harsh environments and can drill upto 7,000 metres through rock while deployed in waters up to 3 000 metres deep, giving a maximum drill string length of 10 000 metres.
While celebrating this great success Drydocks World Dubai are poised to take on new challenges and embark on even more advanced and demanding projects.
