ALBAWABA - Local authorities reported that at least 7 people were killed and dozens others injured during a stampede at a music concert in Kinshasa, D.R. Congo.
Popular Congolese gospel singer, Mike Kalambayi, was performing a concert at the 80,000-capacity Stade des Martyrs stadium in Kinshasa when the tragic stampede took place, Kinshasa Gov. Daniel Bumba stated.
According to state broadcaster RTNC, seven people were killed in the incident, while several of those injured were sent to intensive care units.
Authorities declined to comment on what triggered the rush, saying an investigation was ongoing. However, the local music management business that planned the concert stated that the commotion began when "the security services tried to neutralize some troublemakers".
According to the management company Maajabu Gospel, over 30,000 people attended the performance, which also featured numerous other performers and pastors.
Large masses gathered outside the stadium in front of barricades as they waited to enter, according to videos taken on the spot and televised throughout the event. Inside, individuals were spotted flocking to the center stage.
