Company: Sekurus International LLC
Sekurus International’s SekurTrack fleet management solution devices have been installed in 600 cars used by fleet companies over the past 18 months, in the largest experiment ever conducted here or anywhere else in the world on the correlation between driver behavior and fuel consumption.
SekurTrack ,"by Sekurus International ”, precisely monitor driving characteristics such as acceleration, braking, turns, speed per minute and fuel level. Driving aberrations - such as highway driving speed exceeding 120 kmph - trigger an 'alert' in the form of a text message to a cellular phone or by email to the fleet managers in charge, the parameters of which are defined by the fleet managers themselves. Usually, offending drivers become aware of the trigger only after it has been passed along.
Although a few Drivers have attempted to disconnect the devices electrical wiring and fuses, the anti-tamper trigger which disables the vehicle and sends an alert to the fleet manager of the attempt has insured that other drivers would not attempt the same. On the other hand most drivers have accepted the systems. The very presence of the system has affected the 'drivers’ driving style. Most of them, it turns out, have begun driving in a more moderate way.
The results are reflected in an average saving of 15% in fuel consumption. And that is a potentially enormous cost saver. The 500 cars use about 2 million liters of fuel annually, and lowering consumption by 15% means a saving of 300,000 liters of fuel. SekurTrack is to be installed in another few thousand vehicles over the coming months.
Sekurus International was founded by Basel Al Salah. The SekurTrack solution monitors all characteristics of driving and of the vehicle itself though a sensor that measures multidirectional acceleration, and allows analysis of acceleration, braking and behavior. The system also includes a global position system (GPS) attached to a database of maps, which enables precise positioning, including the driving lane - providing the ability to analyze whether the driver has been speeding on a particular section of the road.
The system also interfaces with sensors installed in the vehicle itself and collects parameters such as fuel consumption and temperature. The system's unique software analyzes all of the data and draws conclusions on the driver's behavior.
"At this point in time," he says, "when the cost of fuel is so high not forgetting the environmental impact and demand for quality human resources is greater than supply, the managers of companies are wary of all aspects, which makes SekurTrack the answer.
