The Community Development Authority (CDA) in Dubai launched the screening of a short film titled, 'Home Care for the Elderly' at an event held at Cinestar Cinema at Mall of the Emirates. The 25-minute film is aimed at educating families on how best to care for the elderly in every aspect of daily life.
This initiative is part of CDA's strategic objective to achieve social protection, empowerment and integration of all sections of the society. The initiative is also in line with the directives of Dubai Government's to provide high quality social services and health services that contribute to the overall social welfare of residents.
Sheikh Maktoum Bin Butti Al Maktoum, CEO – Social Care, representatives from Dubai Health Authority, senior government officials, non-profit organizations, and a number of senior citizens attended the event.
"Based on the teachings of Islam, which recommends kindness to the elderly, we co-operated with the Dubai Health Authority to produce this film. We are confident that it will be a tool to guide families and health workers in addressing the needs of the elderly and in taking care of them. The film focuses on the methods of dealing with the elderly such as caring for their personal hygiene, appearance, food, and morale, through appreciation and giving them the opportunity to express their views," said Sheikh Maktoum.
Sheikh Maktoum praised the cooperation and support of Cinestar Cinemas and Mall of the Emirates for providing facilities that contributed to the success of the event. He said that this cooperation reflects the commitment of both the private and public sector in Dubai to raise the level of social work in Dubai.
The Community Development Authority in Dubai co-operates with the public and private sectors to promote a culture of caring for the elderly, and raises community awareness. Through the launch of similar initiatives and seminars for the elderly, CDA highlights their efforts, achievements and services in the Emirate, and educates the generations to follow them, and be patient with them, taking into account their physical and psychological conditions.
